Aeromexico, the Mexican flag carrier, has been named the most punctual airline in the world for February 2021. According to Cirium, 90.66 percent of its scheduled flights arrived at their destination on time.

The airline completed 99.78 percent of its scheduled flights, with 91.69 percent departing on time and 90.66 percent arriving on time, making it the most punctual global airline.

Aeromexico’s on-time performance significantly improved in February compared to the previous month. In January, only 78.13% of its flights arrived on time, which means its February on-time performance increased by 12.5 percent month-on-month—the biggest jump among all airlines in the top 10.

“Occupying the top position worldwide is truly inspiring, and it is possible thanks to the enormous effort of the best-trained talent in the industry behind every takeoff and landing,” said Andres Conesa, CEO of Aeromexico.

Delta Air Lines was the second most punctual global airline last month, with 89.27 percent of its more than 123,000 flights arriving on time—a nearly 10 percent increase compared to the previous month.

January’s most punctual airline—Spanish flag carrier Iberia—dropped to third place in February with an on-time performance of 88.08 percent.

Other U.S. airlines to make the top 10 globally were United Airlines, which placed fourth with an on-time performance of 84.91 percent, and American Airlines, which placed sixth with an on-time performance of 84.43 percent.

For its ranking of global airlines, Cirium only considers carriers that serve at least three regions and are in the top 10% of airlines by capacity and passenger volume.

North America:

Flight cancellations in North America decreased by 77 percent in February compared to January, causing a significant improvement in on-time arrival performance for all major airlines.

Delta, United, and American Airlines improved their on-time performance by 10 percent, 7 percent, and 10 percent, respectively, while Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines also saw a 7 percent and 8 percent increase in the proportion of flights arriving on time.

This improvement was somewhat expected, as January was particularly bad for U.S. and Canadian airlines. Severe winter weather impacted thousands of flights across the continent, resulting in a 400 percent increase in flight cancellations compared to December 2023.
