Alaska Airlines has opened the doors to its highly anticipated lounge at San Francisco International Airport‘s (SFO) Harvey Milk Terminal 1. This new space marks a significant upgrade, promising a premium experience for travelers passing through one of the busiest airports in the world.
Spanning an impressive 11,000 square feet, the new lounge is Alaska’s second-largest facility in its network. This investment underscores the airline’s commitment to enhancing the guest experience for the approximately 5 million travelers it serves annually in San Francisco.
The lounge is a key part of a two-year, $30 million relocation project from Terminal 2, solidifying Alaska Airlines as the largest carrier operating at Terminal 1.
The lounge’s design reflects the easygoing West Coast vibe, featuring tan sofas and recliners positioned for optimal comfort and relaxation.
Floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning views of the concourse, allowing patrons to unwind while watching the bustling activity of the airport. The warm lighting and intimate ambiance create a cozy retreat from the hectic terminal environment.
Diverse Amenities
Travelers can enjoy a top-tier barista station and a fully stocked bar, ensuring a range of expertly crafted beverages. The culinary offerings are equally impressive, with a menu that includes sourdough bread, spreads, and sweets sourced from the local San Francisco Bay Area. For those with a sweet tooth, two pancake machines are available, catering to passengers of all ages.
With 55 percent more seating capacity than its predecessor in Terminal 2, the lounge is equipped with plug-in outlets at nearly every seat, accommodating the needs of modern travelers.
Additionally, two TalkBox booths provide a private space for calls and virtual meetings, ensuring guests can conduct business or personal conversations in privacy.
Commitment to Sustainability
Alaska Airlines has partnered with William Duff Architects to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification for the new lounge. This certification reflects the airline’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility.
The lounge incorporates water-efficient measures and low-emitting materials to reduce energy use, aligning with Alaska’s eco-friendly reputation.
While the lounge features modern bathrooms, it does not include showers—an amenity that Alaska patrons have frequently requested. Despite this, the lounge offers a luxurious and comfortable environment that redefines the premium travel experience.
“Today’s unveiling of our elegantly designed Lounge at SFO represents the culmination of over two years of dedicated commitment to enhance the way we care for our guests,” said Sangita Woerner, senior vice president of marketing and guest experience at Alaska Airlines.
“Our Lounges redefine the premium travel experience, providing top-tier amenities and ample space to escape the hustle and bustle of the airport, whether you’re traveling with Alaska or our oneworld and global airline partners.”
Access and Availability
Access to the new lounge at SFO is available to Alaska Lounge members. Additionally, any traveler can purchase single-entry passes with a valid Alaska Airlines, oneworld, or global airline boarding pass. This inclusivity ensures that a wide range of passengers can enjoy the premium amenities offered by the lounge.
Coincidentally, in addition to the Alaska Airlines lounge, the Harvey Milk Terminal 1 recently welcomed the inauguration of The Club at SFO, increasing the offering of premium services in the terminal for all passengers.
The unveiling of Alaska Airlines’ new lounge at SFO represents a significant enhancement in the airline’s infrastructure and commitment to guest satisfaction.
With its spacious design, exceptional amenities, and focus on sustainability, the lounge sets a new standard for premium travel experiences. Travelers passing through SFO can look forward to a relaxing and luxurious retreat, embodying the best of Alaska Airlines’ hospitality.
