In partnership with American Airlines, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced a $125 million redevelopment project for the concessions area at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport’s (JFK) Terminal 8.
Under the plans of the redevelopment project, the terminal will get a new Great Hall with more than 60 new retail and dining spaces with a strong focus on local and culturally diverse businesses, especially from the Queens and New York State communities. The multi-million dollar project aims to create at least 300 new concession jobs at JFK’s Terminal 8 following the recent completion of the terminal’s $400 million expansion.

Along with new shopping and restaurant offerings, the upcoming redevelopment will involve a complete redesign of the concessions area. It will also include new duty-free shopping areas and performance spaces.
“This is another tremendous milestone in our extensive JFK Redevelopment Program,” said Rick Cotton, Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. “We are excited for the continued transformation to bring customers a world-class travel experience, boost employment opportunities for our local communities, and provide a pathway for local and minority enterprises to propel their business as a design, construction, or concession partner.”
Amanda Zheng, Vice President of Airport Affairs and Facilities at American Airlines, admitted, “looking forward to working with our project partners, the Port Authority, and the local community to deliver a transformative dining and shopping experience that represents the dynamic New York region. We’re committed to ensuring a world-class experience at Terminal 8, and this commercial redevelopment will further elevate the travel journey for our customers and our oneworld partners.”
American Airlines has selected JFK T8 Innovation Partners, led by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports (URW), Phoenix Infrastructure Group, and Holt Construction, to carry out the redevelopment project. URW owns and develops many sustainable real estate assets across the U.S. and Europe.

At the same time, the Phoenix Infrastructure Group is a minority-owned, crucial infrastructure investment firm, and Holt Construction is a New York-based building firm already working on expanding Terminal 8.
“It is an honor to partner with American Airlines and the Port Authority to help transform JFK and bring major benefits to New Yorkers and travelers from around the world,” said Dany Nasr, CEO of URW Airports. “We’re committed to ensuring Terminal 8’s concession program celebrates New York’s incredible diversity and represents the best of New York with a lineup that spotlights local, small, and minority-owned businesses alongside global icons.”
