JetBlue is shaking up the North American airline loyalty program game by offering elite members from rival U.S. airlines the opportunity to join its TrueBlue frequent flyer scheme at elite levels through its “Match to Mosaic” program. This includes a generous three months of complimentary perks, with the option to extend their membership.
Status match offers are common from airlines as they attempt to lure frequent fliers away from competitors. In the United States, JetBlue’s peers, including American Airlines, Delta, United, Southwest, and Alaska all operate similar programs.
JetBlue has run temporary status match promotions before, most recently welcoming a maximum of 30,000 Delta elites last fall after its Atlanta-based rival controversially overhauled how its customers earn status.
Match to Mosaic: What you need to know
“Match to Mosaic” will be JetBlue’s first ongoing status match offer without a deadline for enrollment or cap on participant numbers.
It’s open to travelers with elite status with Delta, United, American, or Alaska. Depending on their rank within those programs, travelers will be gifted three months at Mosaic 1 or 2 status within JetBlue’s TrueBlue program:
Current airline | Mosaic 1 | Mosaic 2 |
---|---|---|
Delta Air Lines | Silver, Gold | Platinum, Diamond, Delta 360 |
Alaska Airlines | MVP, MVP Gold | MVP Gold 75K, MVP Gold 100K |
American Airlines | AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum | AAdvantage Platinum Pro, AAdvantage Executive Platinum, ConciergeKey |
United Airlines | Premier Silver, Premier Gold | Premier Platinum, Premier 1K, Global Services |
Mosaic 1 is the lowest of the four elite statuses within TrueBlue and offers benefits such as:
Two free checked bags |
Free inflight alcoholic beverages (for travelers over 21) |
Free same-day flight changes |
Priority “Mosaic” boarding |
Access to an expedited security lane |
Dedicated check-in area |
Free selection of a “preferred Core” seat, aisle and window seats in better locations in the plane, such as near the front of the cabin |
Dedicated 24/7 phone lines and priority chat assistance |
Complimentary upgrades to Even More Space seats, with up to 7 more inches of legroom, at check-in, if available |
In addition, status match members will receive a pre-selected “Perk You Pick” benefit. For Mosaic 1 members, this will be priority access to Mint Suite selection on select aircraft.
Mosaic 2 members receive all the benefits of a regular Mosaic membership, along with additional perks. These include complimentary upgrades to Even More Space seats with up to 7 more inches of legroom at the time of booking, if available. Additionally, for Mosaic 2 members, the pre-selected Perk You Pick benefit is a waiver of the $125 fee to bring a cat or dog aboard.
Extending Elite Status
Travelers are also given a leg up on extending their elite status. To stay a Mosaic 1 status, during their three-month introductory period, travelers must earn 10 “tiles,” the True Blue program’s currency.
Customers earn one tile per every $100 spent with JetBlue, including on flights and package vacations through JetBlue Vacations. They can also earn by spending on JetBlue-branded credit cards at a rate of one tile per $1,000 charged.
Typically, travelers must earn 50 tiles in a year to become a Mosaic 1, so status match elites are offered a boost. Likewise, to stay at Mosaic 2 status for the year, status-matched elites must earn 25 tiles within three months by spending either $2,500 with JetBlue or $25,000 on a JetBlue credit card.
By earning 40 tiles within the three months, status-matched members will upgrade to Mosaic 3 status with even more privileges, such as four complimentary upgrades from basic “Core” seats to lie-flat “Mint” seats.
How to apply?
Travelers interested in the status match offer can apply online through a dedicated webpage. You’ll be asked to submit a screenshot of your frequent flyer profile with an eligible competitor, showing your full name and rank.
To match to Mosaic 2, you’ll also need to provide a screenshot or photo of your most recent boarding pass or flight confirmation, displaying your status.
