Alaska Airlines has expanded its presence in California and the Pacific Northwest with the addition of five new routes.
As of October 1, Alaska Airlines launched flights from Las Vegas (LAS) to both San Diego (SAN) and Santa Rosa (STS) and from Los Angeles (LAX) to both Tri-Cities Airport (PSC) in Pasco, Washington, and Reno-Tahoe (RNO).
The Seattle-based carrier also relaunched nonstop flights between Portland (PDX) and Atlanta (ATL) on the same day.
The launch of the Las Vegas to San Diego route strengthens Alaska’s position as the dominant carrier at San Diego, taking its total number of nonstop destinations from the Southern California city to 39. However, it will face fierce competition on this route, with four carriers already serving it — Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and Spirit Airlines.
Alaska’s new route to Santa Rosa/Sonoma County, the gateway to the world-famous wine regions of Northern California, will greatly interest wine lovers in Nevada, who can also take advantage of the airline’s Wine Flies Free program. This scheme allows Mileage Plan members to check in up to 12 bottles of wine free of charge, thus avoiding expensive shipping fees.
Meanwhile, the new flights from Los Angeles to Pasco and Reno strengthen Alaska’s position as one of the leading airlines at LAX. According to Alaska, it now operates more daily flights to West Coast destinations from LAX than any other carrier.
The four new routes are serviced daily by an Embraer 175 aircraft. These jets accommodate 76 passengers, with 12 seats in First Class, 16 in Premium Class, and 48 in the Main Cabin.
Alaska Airlines also relaunched nonstop flights between Portland and Atlanta, operating daily but with a Boeing 737-900.
“Travel demand continues to be strong, and we are excited to provide our guests with more options for their next business trip or autumn getaway,” said Kirsten Amrine, Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning at Alaska Airlines.
“With the addition of these new nonstop routes, we also continue to strengthen our presence throughout the state of California and connect Pacific Northwest communities with our broader network.”
