When Williams Racing Formula 1 driver Alex Albon isn’t on the track, he travels by plane, car, helicopter, even his own two feet—wearing trusty Birkenstocks or Crocs. “I love sharing experiences with people on planes. I find that quite fun. I love road trips, as well.” Most often Albon can be found traversing the world with girlfriend and professional golfer Lily He. His travel essentials? Tart cherry extract to fight jet lag and sunscreen—“only because Lily makes me. She says if I don’t wear it, I will ruin my skin.” Here, his recent travels.

Thailand

“It’s my second home. I either stay with family or jump around to hotels. I recently visited Six Senses Yao Noi. We holiday over there—and I love spicy Thai food, of course. I normally spend a few days in Bangkok just for the food and shopping. But once I want to switch off, I go to the beach, like Phuket. The small islands around Thailand are really beautiful.”

“I did my training camp there in January—it’s a great place to get ready for the season. It’s so mixed in terms of what you can do, and the food is very healthy. Malibu is a great mix between city life and outdoors. I can spend a lot of time surfing and hiking.”

Japan

“I’ve been everywhere around Japan. I love that Japanese culture is all about the niche thing. It could be a handkerchief, or it could be ramen. They try to be the very best at what they do and they dedicate their whole lives to craft. I love the green-tea shops and yakitori places, and going to bookstores or stationery stores. My favorite track is Suzuka. The circuit itself is amazing—it’s so high-speed and as drivers we love to experience that adrenaline.”

“I’ve only been twice. I went with my girlfriend, and we played at Shadow Creek, an amazing golf course. I’m not much of a gambler or a nightlife guy but the food is great. The city has world-renowned restaurants all in one place. I visited Carbone at Aria, which was really good.”
