American Airlines will reintroduce seven popular international routes ahead of next summer, reinstating seven highly-popular long-haul destinations that were suspended during the pandemic.

Four of the seven new routes were suspended last year, and another two were axed in 2020. However, the Charlotte to Paris route hasn’t operated for over three years.

The complete list of returning routes in June 2023 are:

  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Frankfurt Airport (FRA)
  • Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Santiago de Chile’s Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL)
  • Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Sydney Airport (SYD)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR)

Many of these routes have been revived due to the easing of global COVID restrictions. For example, American Airlines announced the return of Tokyo and Sydney to its network, following Japan and Australia’s recently opened borders for international travelers.

The resumption of these routes should significantly boost the airline’s operations, all of which were hampered during the pandemic.

In addition to the seven popular routes returning to the network, American Airlines is also increasing frequency on four more international routes in the spring of 2023:

  • Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
  • Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA) to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA) to Sao Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU)

However, American Airlines isn’t just focused on international expansion, as the carrier announced new domestic routes from Boston and New York along with its Northeast Alliance partner JetBlue. The new cooperation includes added flights to destinations like Birmingham, Buffalo, Grand Rapids, and Knoxville.
