Passengers flying with Alaska Airlines will have another way to earn miles on the ground. The Seattle-based carrier has partnered up with Lyft to award Mileage Plan frequent flyers one mile for each dollar they spent on Lyft rides within the U.S. and Canada. But with a boost in effect until December 31, 2022, that rate is doubled to two miles for every dollar spent.

Mileage Plan members who use an Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card to pay for their Lyft ride will also earn an additional mile for every $1.

To benefit, passengers need to be a member of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan loyalty program and have an account with the ride-sharing app Lyft. In addition, both accounts must be linked at AlaskaLyft.com.

“We always want our guests to have a terrific travel experience, even when they’re not flying with us,” said Sangita Woerner, senior vice president of marketing and guest experience at Alaska Airlines. “Our new partnership with Lyft makes sure our flyers are also cared for on the ground as they go places.”

Zach Greenberger, vice president of strategic business development and supply chain at Lyft, added, “We are thrilled to provide our riders with more benefits and opportunities to enjoy a best-in-class travel experience. At Lyft, we’re committed to hospitality and to giving our users the chance to unlock the best value for all their transportation needs – a key purpose embedded in this partnership.”

One caveat is that passengers will only earn Alaska Airlines miles on the base fare of their Lyft ride, excluding any additional fees such as tax, tolls, and tips for the driver.

Alaska Airlines is one of many loyalty programs to partner with the ride-sharing provider. Delta Air Lines gives passengers two SkyMiles on every $1 spent on Lyft rides to and from airports in the U.S. They can also earn one mile for every $1 spent on non-airport Lyft rides in the U.S.

Also, Hilton allows travelers to earn three Hilton Honors points for every $1 spent on economy, luxury, and extra seat Lyft rides. Shared Lyft rides will earn you two points for every $1 spent.

Passengers can only have one reward partner per ride, but they can toggle between them by changing their rewards partner from within the Lyft app.
