Iberia Launches VeriFLY App on US-Bound Flights
The airline is testing the digital health passport technology on its flights to Miami and New York
Iberia is running a two-month trial of the VeriFLY digital health passport app on flights to Miami and New York.
The app, which can be downloaded to mobile devices from the Apple or Google Play stores, allows customers to check that they meet the entry requirements of their destination prior to departure “by providing digital health document verification and confirming eligibility.”
Once submitted the app will provide either a ‘Pass’ or ‘Fail’ message. The airline says using the app is voluntary “for now,” and passengers can instead opt to present paper health documents at the check-in counter.
The carrier joins fellow Oneworld carriers and transatlantic joint business partners American Airlines and British Airways in offering the app.
American first launched a trial of the app in December, and in February started offering the technology for outbound international travelers from all its US gateways, as well as for passengers arriving into the US. British Airways is testing the app on its flights from London to the US.
“Now is the time to take advantage of all that technology offers us to simplify the travel experience and to fly with confidence,” Ignacio Tovar, Iberia’s transformation manager, said. “At Iberia we are working on the digitization of the documents and tests required by each country, to make them easier to check and to give our customers a safe and contactless experience.”
