KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is set to bring a touch of Dutch flair to Southern California, announcing its debut at San Diego International Airport (SAN) with direct flights to Amsterdam.
Starting May 8, 2025, just in time for the busy summer, the Dutch flag carrier will launch three weekly flights from San Diego to the Netherlands, marking KLM as the airport’s seventh international carrier and its newest link to Europe.
“We are very pleased to have KLM join as the 19th carrier at SAN,” said Kimberly Becker, CEO and President of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
“This summer, European travel is up over 30 percent compared to last year. Amsterdam, with its iconic canals and world-class museums and corporate ties to the San Diego region, will be the 10th international destination offered from SAN, and we look forward to a continued demand from both business and leisure international travelers”
With this addition, SAN will now offer year-round nonstop service to three European destinations: London, Munich, and Amsterdam, where travelers can seamlessly connect to over 160 destinations across Europe and beyond, thanks to KLM’s SkyTeam membership. This means access to coordinated schedules, streamlined travel options, and enhanced loyalty benefits with 19 other international airlines.
“The launch of KLM’s direct service between Amsterdam and San Diego marks an exciting milestone in our North American expansion,” said Boaz Hulsman, Vice President of Commercial, North America at Air France-KLM. “This new route opens a gateway to Southern California’s dynamic economy while connecting the San Diego community to Amsterdam and beyond.”
“San Diego represents a key market with tremendous potential as we continue to strengthen our trans-Atlantic network,” added Hulsman.
Currently, San Diego offers nonstop international flights to destinations such as London Heathrow, Tokyo Narita, and various Canadian and Mexican cities. Domestically, SAN connects travelers to over 70 destinations, making it a robust hub for local and international passengers.
Flights between San Diego and Amsterdam will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays aboard KLM’s newest plane, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
