The newly opened SkyTeam joint lounge at Panama City Tocumen International Airport (PTY) is a refreshing addition to this bustling Central American hub. It is strategically located in Terminal 2, directly in front of Gate 204 and adjacent to the Copa Airlines lounge.
This prime placement provides passengers an excellent alternative to the often-crowded Copa facilities, making it a welcome option for travelers flying through The Hub of The Americas.
Being the sole lounge at the airport that operates around the clock, it accommodates diverse schedules, providing comfort and convenience for travelers at any time.
Access
The lounge is available to all SkyTeam Elite Plus members and passengers traveling in business class on Air Europa.
Additionally, it welcomes Priority Pass and LoungeKey members, expanding its accessibility to a broader range of travelers. This inclusivity, combined with the lounge’s offerings, positions it as a strong competitor in the airport’s lounge scene.
The Lounge
With a capacity to accommodate over 100 guests, the SkyTeam Lounge is thoughtfully designed to cater to a range of traveler needs. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a modern yet warm ambiance.
The lounge, which overlooks the terminal’s gates from above, is divided into several distinct zones: a main seating area, a private TV room, a quiet “silent room” for undisturbed relaxation, a small room for children, and a section equipped with three showers.
The layout promotes a comfortable flow, featuring generous seating in both private and communal settings.
During the day, the open-air design allows natural light to illuminate the space, while at night, the airport’s gentle lighting fosters a serene environment. The minimalist style, highlighted by SkyTeam’s signature blue accents, embodies a chic, modern look.
Food and Beverage
The lounge’s culinary offerings are basic, with a rotating menu that caters to different times of the day. Breakfast, served from 5:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., includes an assortment of scrambled eggs, baked potatoes, pancakes, cereals, fresh fruits, and breads, providing a balanced start to the day.
Lunch and dinner, available from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., feature heartier fare. During my visit, the menu offered pasta al pomodoro or rice with chicken Alfredo. The lounge also boasts a pizza station with a live oven, serving up freshly made varieties. The chicken and pepperoni pizzas were in high demand during my stay, so the staff was quick to replenish and keep guests well-served.
At the bar, the beverage offerings are plenty. In addition to traditional cocktails such as Margaritas, Screwdrivers, and Gin & Tonics, the bartender serves the lounge’s signature drink, “The Global.”
This creative twist on a Long Island Iced Tea incorporates Blue Curaçao, a nod to SkyTeam’s iconic color scheme. The bar is also stocked with various beers, whiskeys, and rums, ensuring a drink option for every preference.
Amenities
The SkyTeam joint lounge is well-equipped with amenities designed to elevate the travel experience. The three shower suites are a standout feature, offering guests the opportunity to refresh without any additional charges. These suites are spacious, clean, and thoughtfully stocked with high-quality toiletries.
For travelers needing to stay connected, the lounge provides robust Wi-Fi, ample charging stations, and quiet spaces conducive to productivity. The TV room offers a more relaxed environment for unwinding with entertainment, while the silent room is perfect for those seeking a serene retreat.
Another unique touch is the digital menu system for made-to-order dishes. Guests can scan a QR code to access the menu, select their preferred dish, and enjoy table service, adding a personalized touch to the dining experience.
Verdict
The SkyTeam joint lounge in Panama City is a game-changer. With its 24/7 availability, modern design, and comprehensive range of services, it offers a comfortable experience for both leisure and business travelers. The thoughtful division of space, diverse food and drink options, and standout amenities like showers and personalized dining set it apart from other lounges at the airport.
As the second joint lounge in The Americas—following the one in São Paulo—it not only provides a high-quality alternative to Copa’s lounges but also raises the bar for what travelers can expect at Tocumen International Airport.
In addition to its joint lounges in Panama City and São Paulo, the airline alliance has four SkyTeam-branded lounges in Vancouver (YVR), Dubai (DXB), Sydney (SYD), and Santiago de Chile (SCL).
