Veranda Suite Tour – Viejas Casino & Resort near San Diego

In Southern California, casinos owned by local Indian tribes are finally reaching the level of Las Vegas in terms of luxury, dining options and gaming.

The Viejas Casino & Resort is located in Alpine, California, about 30 minutes from downtown San Diego. The property continues to grow and I can report it really does offer a Vegas-like experience, without the four-hour drive.

We did a weekend getaway to the resort, staying at The Willows Hotel & Spa, one of two hotels on-property. The Willows is for guests 21-and-over while the other, the Viejas Hotel, is for guests of all ages. At The Willows, we had a beautiful 600-square-foot Veranda Suite, on the ground level. The stylish suite, also known as a Signature Suite King, came with a large, private fenced in patio area, with its own direct gate leading to the pool area.

Inside, the suite had a large living area with very cool furniture and a really crystal-clear LG flat-screen TV that had to be 60 inches. The furnishings were very finely crafted, an example being the thick slab of marble that made up the mini-bar space and the work desk. The spa-like bathroom was very large with a huge marble shower, but lacked a bathtub (something I think is necessary in a luxury hotel suite). The bathroom had marble floors and some very cool accent tiles in the shower. Luxury amenities like robes and slippers were provided.

We also had a chance to experience some of the Viejas Resort’s food, as we had several excellent room service meals along with a wonderful dinner  at Locale, one of the on-property restaurants. The luxurious accommodations and great food were supplemented by warm, friendly service from every employee we came in contact with. When I had a problem opening the patio door, a maintenance call received a response in about five minutes, two engineering guys came to show me how to operate the door and lock.
