Tripadvisor Launches Contactless Menu Creator

Feature is free to restaurants, creates a QR code to link customers’ phones to online menus

As the world grapples the perplexing coronavirus pandemic, contactless has gone mainstream, particularly in the restaurant business. In fact, research shows diners prefer eating at restaurants that have “contactless menus.”

Menus are one of the most handled items found in a restaurant. Actually even before the pandemic, no one liked being handed a menu covered with fingerprint smudges.

To help the public find menu-free eateries, travel aggregator Tripadvisor has launched a new Travel Safe search-engine filter which identifies venues which take extra steps to minimize the risk of spreading the virus.

According to Tripadvisor, more than a third of consumers (35 percent) say they will put an emphasis on dining at restaurants that they feel keep customers safe.

Some of the safety precautions which guests say restaurants should take include: providing hand sanitizer to customers; disinfecting tables and chairs between guests, and frequently sanitizing high contact areas. Contactless menus are a big part of what customers are expecting, according to Tripadvisor.

To help restaurant operators go contactless, Tripadvisor has launched a Contactless Menu creator available through their website. The feature is free to any restaurant that has added a menu link to its Tripadvisor listing.

It creates a QR code which links to the restaurant’s Tripadvisor online menu. The QR code can be printed out and displayed in highly visible areas such as tables, counters, host stands and windows so guests can scan it with their mobile phone cameras and view the menu ‘contactless-ly’ any time.
