Wyndham Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to open 20 properties under its Microtel by Wyndham brand across Greater China by the end of 2022. Among the new destinations are the cities of Huangshan, Changsha, Qingdao and Fuzhou.

Scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2021, the 110-room Microtel by Wyndham Huangshan Tangkou will be situated close to the Mount Huangshan Scenic Area in Anhui province.

The 135-room Microtel by Wyndham Changsha West will feature meeting space for up to 80 guests, and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2022.

The Microtel by Wyndham brand, which launched in China in 2019, currently has six hotels in the country, located in Hangzhou, Hefei, Guiyang, Kunming, Lijiang and Tianjin.

Worldwide, the brand has around 350 properties across the US, Canada, Mexico, China and the Philippines. According to the hotel group’s website, “Every Microtel is purpose-built, making it the only all new construction hotel chain in the economy segment.”

Wyndham describes the brand as offering “modern and stylish accommodation, focusing on both form and function, that perfectly caters to the needs of business and leisure travelers.”

“The accelerated expansion of our Microtel by Wyndham portfolio in Greater China is a strong demonstration of the power and recognition of our brands in the market, said Mr Joon Aun Ooi, president, Asia Pacific, Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.

“We will continue to build on the success of this expansion as we look to register and introduce even more of Wyndham’s 21 iconic and lifestyle brands like LaQuinta for our franchise sales and development teams to sell – further reinforcing Wyndham’s market-leading position with a total of 1,600 hotels across the Asia Pacific region.”
