LA’s Century Plaza Reopens Under the Fairmont Flag

After a multi-billion dollar development, the property features 400 hotel rooms and 63 residential units

September 21, 2021

The Los Angeles Fairmont Century Plaza is set to reopen Sept. 27, following the completion of a five-year, $2.5 billion development. The Accor property occupies 16 floors and featuring 400 rooms and 63 Fairmont residential units.

Two adjacent 44-story towers will offer 94,000 square feet of boutique shopping outlets, and 268 privately-owned luxury residences.

Design firm Yabu Pushelberg had delivered what Accord calls “a modern update to the 1960s nostalgia whilst celebrating Fairmont’s defining quality of grandeur with a Californian twist.” The original Century Plaza hotel opened in 1966 in Los Angeles’ Century City, and was the first hotel to have color TVs in all its rooms.

Amenities include a rooftop pool and bar, French inspired all day dining brasserie Lumiere, and The Bar at Century Plaza in the lobby area. The 14,000-square-foot Fairmont Spa Century Plaza includes nine treatments rooms, experiential rain showers, sanariums, aromatherapy steam rooms, a hammam, and a Himalayan salt room

The Fairmont Gold concept feature 70 rooms and suites with private check-in and access to the Gold Lounge. The hotel features around 24,000 square feet of indoor events space and another 4,000 square feet of outdoor rooftop space, and offers the 13,000 square foot Los Angeles Ballroom.

The hotel has about half the number of guest rooms to make space for marble bathrooms and balconies for every room and suite. Accor also said that the hotel would be home to a collection of art from around the world, including the 23-feet tall Laura mesh sculpture on the front drive, created by Spanish artist Juame Plensa.

The launch of the Century City property is part of an ambitious schedule of openings for Accor in 2021. The group opened its first Fairmont property in Ireland this summer, with the renovation and rebranding of Carton House. Other openings under the Fairmont flag include Windsor Park in England, and properties in Riyadh, Seoul and Morocco.

“The reopening of this Los Angeles luxury landmark is a milestone for both the brand and the city, as Fairmont is trusted to reimagine this storied icon following a $2.5 billion renovation and development project,” commented Heather McCrory, CEO of Accor North and Central America.

“The newest Fairmont is a flagship for the brand, offering a one-of-a-kind experience at the center of it all in the famed Century City and setting the standard for future development projects in the region.”
