Hilton Honors Makes Status Match Faster

The hotel group is cutting in half the number of nights required for members to match their elite status in other programs

January 19, 2021

Hilton Honors has announced that it is cutting in half the number of nights required for its status match program. Members of the Hilton program at the Base and Silver level who have status in a competitor’s loyalty program can apply for status match, and get 90 days Gold status once approved.

To maintain Gold status at the end of the 90-day period, members are required to complete a certain number of night stays. Previously, to keep Gold status the member had to stay ten nights during the promotional period. Under the new rules, that number is now five nights.

To upgrade to Diamond status, members needed to complete 18 nights. That requirement has now been cut in half to nine nights.

In addition members who do earn Gold or Diamond status under the promotion will maintain their status until March 31, 2023.

The list of competitor’s loyalty programs for which status match can be requested include:

• Marriott Bonvoy

• IHG Rewards Club

• World of Hyatt

• Best Western Rewards

• Choice Privileges

• Le Club Accor Hotels

• Radisson Rewards

• Wyndham Rewards

Only Base and Silver Hilton Honors members are eligible for the status match offer. Members are only eligible for the offer if they have not previously completed a Hilton Honors status match challenge.

The 90-day period to reach the required five or nine nights starts as soon as the match has been approved.

Hilton says that members should allow five to seven business days for the status match request to be processed, although it notes that “Hilton may require additional validation in its complete discretion which may take an additional five to seven business days.”

The reduction in the status match challenge requirements is the latest change to Hilton Honors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously the compnay announced the rollover of elite qualifying nights into 2021, the extension of status privileges and pausing of points expiration and an extension of the group’s current flexible cancellation policy.

The group is also currently offering members 2,000 bonus points per stay, plus an extra 5,000 bonus points for every five nights completed, under its Hilton Honors Points Unlimited promotion.
