Fourth Houston Hyatt Regency Debuts

The 400-room property was one of the original Regency hotels when it opened 40 years ago

Hyatt has opened its fourth property in Houston under the Hyatt Regency brand. The 400-room hotel, which was most recently in the Omni portfolio, was originally a Regency hotel when it opened some 40 years ago.

“The opening marks a full circle moment as the property originally opened as a Hyatt Regency hotel in the early 1980s,” according to a Hyatt statement.

The Hyatt Regency Houston West is located on Katy Freeway in the city’s Energy Corridor. The hotel recently underwent an $11 million renovation program, and ceased operating under the Omni flag on August 24.

Surrounded by a two-acre lake, the hotel’s atrium lobby features a water garden with “slowly cascading waterfalls, exotic foliage and tropical fish, serving as the harmonious core of hotel.”

Food and beverage outlets feature all-day dining in the Café on the Lake and the Black Gold Bar, a nod to the city’s place in the oil and gas industry. Amenities include a fitness center, outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool, and 25,000 square feet of meeting and events space including the 9,800 square foot Texas Ballroom.

In addition to the newest opening, other Houston properties under the brand are the Hyatt Regency Houston, Hyatt Regency Houston Intercontinental Airport and Hyatt Regency Houston Galleria. Altogether the group has 16 properties in Houston under the Hyatt Regency, Hyatt House and Hyatt Place brands.

“With the opening of Hyatt Regency Houston West, our hotel offers guests the opportunity to unwind in our expansive outdoor green space featuring lawn games and a year-round heated swimming pool and whirlpool,” said general manager Tom Jamison. “Whether traveling to Houston for business or leisure, the hotel provides an authentic hospitality experience in the heart of the city.”
