Taiwan Loosens Quarantine for Some Business Travel
The mandatory self-isolation period is reduced for business travelers from Singapore and other lower-risk countries
Taiwan has announced that beginning March 1, it will allow business travelers from low and medium-risk countries to apply for shortened quarantine periods. Travelers from low-risk locations can have their quarantine periods cut from two weeks to five days.
According to Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), the list of low-risk countries include Bhutan, Brunei, East Timor, Fiji, Laos, Macao, the Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Nauru, New Zealand, and Palau.
Business travelers from countries categorized as medium-risk – Australia, Cambodia, Singapore and Vietnam – will have a shortened quarantine period of seven days.
Business travelers inbound to Taiwan from countries on the list are required to submit documents from a business in Taiwan detailing the purpose of visit, together with an agenda of business activities.
Once they arrive in Taiwan, travelers must take a COVID-19 test on the final day of the designated quarantine period. If the test result comes back negative, travelers will be undergo a period of “enhanced self-health management” until the 14th day after arrival.
Enhanced self-health means business activities must be kept at a minimum, with additional precautionary measures such as contact tracing, use of a chaperone, and staying at approved quarantine hotels.
In addition to quarantine, Taiwan is requiring a COVID-19 PCR test for all inbound and transit passengers, including citizens and foreign residents. The test must be taken within three days prior to departure from their country of origin.
