I'm really liking Kimpton Hotels.

I’ve had a chance to visit a few lately and have been impressed with the overall quality and design of the public spaces and the accommodations, along with the service. I like how they’re all unique, yet designed to fit in their individual neighborhoods or areas.

I had a chance to head up to Santa Barbara to check out the two Kimpton hotels there. There’s the Kimpton Canary hotel in downtown Santa Barbara and the Kimpton Goodland in Goleta, about 20 minutes north. THe Kimpton Goodland is a very cool re-imagining of a Mid-Century (or a bit post) Modern former Holiday Inn. It’s been carefully and lavishly recreated as a modern, luxury boutique hotel with an appropriately funky style. They call it “Bohemian Chic” and it’s kind of a stylish, 70s vibe.

The hotel, which plays home to many bands traveling through the area, pushes this music theme by having record players (modern with Bluetooth connections) and vinyl records in every room and suite. In the lobby, there’s a little vinyl record shop where you can exchange records and even buy them to take home.

The hotel has a huge swimming pool (claimed to be tthe largest hotel pool in Santa Barbara) with many rooms overlooking it. Here’s a look at one of the hotel’s Deluxe Courtyard Suites.
