Study Ranks Alaska Airlines the Top Slot For Healthy Food Rating

Alaska Airlines won the top spot as the airline with the “healthiest” food choices, according to the 2018-19 Airline Food Study from the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center.

The study assigned a “health score” based on 11 criteria, including calorie levels, nutrient information, menu innovation and more. Delta was right behind Alaska, with Air Canada and JetBlue next in the ranking.

Alaska took the top spot from Virgin America, which it acquired last year; according to the study, it has worked hard to inherit Virgin’s “food footprint.”  Among other highlights: American and Delta are offering complimentary meals in economy class on domestic flights, something not seen in more than 15 years; American and Hawaiian Airlines are most improved; and it’s probably best to avoid drinking water from the tap on a plane, which also means staying away from coffee and tea.
