Changing COVID-19 conditions prompts a return to the previous system of country-specific advisories

The US Department of State has announced that as of August 6, it is lifting its Global Level 4 Health Advisory. The decision, according to a State Department announcement, was made “in close coordination with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
The Global Advisory, which had initially been imposed on March 19, had advised US citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.
However with health and safety conditions improving in some countries and potentially deteriorating in others, the Department says it is returning to the previous system of country-specific levels of travel advice, identifying levels from 1 to 4 depending the current status of the disease in each country.
The State Department urges US citizens planning to travel abroad to review the entire Travel Advisory for their destinations on Travel.State.gov. State offers a full list of recent Travel Advisories updates here.
The Department also encourages travelers to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to receive updated alerts about evolving health and safety conditions in their planned destinations.
