Sleeping “Pods” Coming to European Airports

Travellers who don’t have access to luxury airport lounges may soon have a new alternative to curling up on the terminal floor when they need some sleep: Airpods provide enclosed, soundproof spaces you can rent for a nap or even an extended snooze.

The one-person pods, which resemble the cockpit of a fighter jet, are equipped with wifi, air conditioning, Netflix, a work station, charging ports, an alarm clock, airline status updates, and of course a chair that converts into a bed.

The company describes the Airpod as a place to “relax, work, sleep or entertain yourself while waiting for your next flight”.

Rentals are by the hour. European airports are expected to be the first to install Airpods – developed and built in Slovenia – which also are appropriate for train and bus stations and other places where travellers sometimes need privacy and quiet.

Beta testing is now underway, with rollout expected in autumn 2018, the Daily Mail reports.

Other similar products include Jabbrrbox, recently installed in New York’s LaGuardia Intenational Airport, and GoSleep at Helsinki International Airport.
