Singapore has announced the launch of its first vaccinated travel lanes with Germany and Brunei beginning Sept. 8. Travelers departing from Germany or Brunei who have received all recommended doses of a WHO-approved vaccine can enter Singapore without being subject to quarantine.
However, according to an announcement from Singapore’s COVID-19 multi-ministry task force, fully vaccinated travelers from these countries must still have multiple COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction tests.
The protocols require a predeparture test within 48 hours of the scheduled flight, an on-arrival test at Changi Airport, and two post-arrival tests, one on day three and another on day seven at a designated clinic in Singapore.
Travelers who fail to adhere to the testing requirements may be charged under the Infectious Diseases Act, according to authorities. Those who do not comply may be issued a stay-home notice to be quarantined in a dedicated facility.
Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after they have received both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or other vaccines listed under the World Health Organization (WHO) emergency use list, such as Sinovac and AstraZeneca.
Singapore’s announcement of travel lanes with Germany and Brunei comes on the heels of the news last week that efforts to establish a travel bubble with Hong Kong had been scrapped. According to a ministry of transport statement, the decision was the result of a shift in Singapore’s strategy toward becoming “a COVID-resilient nation.”
