KLM Heads to Vegas
KLM has announced plans for a new route between Amsterdam and Las Vegas, the carrier’s 18th North American destination.
A twice weekly service will launch on June 6, rising to three flights per week from July 2.
Flight KL0635 will depart Schiphol at 1230 on Fridays and Sunday (as well as Tuesdays from July 2), arriving into Las Vegas at 1415, with the return leg KL0636 leaving the US city at 1605 and landing back into Amsterdam at 1105 the following day.
The route will be served by a B787-9 aircraft configured for 294 seats – 30 in business class, 45 in Economy Comfort and 219 in economy.
Note that in order to free up a slot at the crowded Amsterdam Schiphol for the Las Vegas route, KLM has been forced to drop its African flights to Freetown (Sierra Leone) and Monrovia (Liberia), which were launched in 2017.
In a statement the carrier said:
“While the Freetown/Monrovia route launched in 2017 would have previously been given more time to grow in terms of performance, KLM is now compelled to deploy its fleet and slots differently.
“Passengers with a reservation for a flight after March 29, 2019 from Amsterdam to these African destinations and vice versa will either be rebooked or reimbursed. Air France will continue to operate its direct service to Freetown from Paris Charles de Gaulle.”
Virgin Atlantic recently announced plans to launch flights between Heathrow and Las Vegas in March 2019, moving the flight it currently operates from London Gatwick to its Terminal 3 Heathrow hub.
