You see, there are various kinds of people in the world. The ones that from a very young age know exactly what they want to do, and so put in all the work and perform well in the right classes in order to get the best grades. While there are other people who have no idea what they want to do, because they haven’t yet found something that appeals to them that they can imagine doing for the rest of their life. And that’s the key here. It’s one thing going for a job because you’ve heard that it’s great pay, but it’s a whole other ballpark if you genuinely enjoy the job too. If you do, then you’ll never find yourself working a day in your life.
For the people that haven’t found that yet though, it can be a very stressful few years because the more the time passes, the more pressure begins adding onto your shoulders because essentially it will feel like you’re losing time. It will feel as though you’re having less and less of a chance to ever have a proper career that makes you happy. But if and when you feel like this – breathe. Breathe and know that not everyone knows what they want to do, and that’s okay too. Some people have many different jobs throughout their life that are completely unrelated from one another. While some say this looks like you’re indecisive and lost, others will tell you that it’s smart. This is because you’re dipping your toe in as many different waters as you can, which in turn, tells you what you don’t enjoy and lack skill in, and what you do enjoy and excel in.
So regardless of where you are mentally, sooner or later you will need to start making decisions that will determine how you get to where you want to be in your career.
Get all the grades.

Have hands-on experience.
One of the best kinds of learning, is to get as up close and personal as you can. It’s good to research what you can and read about it and even watch videos depending on how a certain technique should be done. But to be there in person and have real hands-on experience is no comparison. You can see everything as it is, as a pose to how it’s been described or explained to you, and you have the option of asking in-depth questions there and then while they’re fresh in your mind and can be answered. So if ever there are courses available, or the option to gain real-life work experience, always take these opportunities while you can.
Attend networking events.
It’s completely normal to feel a little anxious about going to a networking event, especially your first ever one, but if you’re able to ride through the nerves and attend anyway, the potential doors of possibility can really play a part in your career. Have a look online for any events in your local area, then get yourself there. Dress smart and professional, and then be as much of a social butterfly as you can. The more people that you get talking to and conversing with, the better. You don’t know just how much of a lasting impression that handshake could really make.
Apply to multiple businesses.
You may very well have one business in particular that you have your eyes on, who you would absolutely love to work for. Having said that, never put all of your eggs in one basket, because although they are your number one option, doesn’t always mean that it’s going to work out for you, and the last thing you want to do is waste time only to result in a negative outcome anyway. So apply to multiple businesses and hand out your CV as much as you can. You may not be selected by your first choice, but it could all work out in your favour in the end, leaving you in an even better role than you ever could’ve imagined.
Keep your head up.
One of the hardest things that you will most likely face along the way, is being let down. It’s important to realise that although you may be doing all that you can – so are hundreds of other candidates too, and sometimes they will have a slight upper hand. This happens, and as awful as it feels to be told no, or to be ignored completely, or to just constantly doubt yourself in general – you need to shut it down mentally. You will fail and stumble sometimes. That’s okay. We all do. That part doesn’t matter – it’s how you recover from it. It’s how you pick yourself up off the ground, dust yourself off, and carry on. That shows courage, and strength, and determination, and drive, and passion – and that’s what people need to see.
