Bayview Junior Suite Tour at Berkeley’s Claremont Club & Spa, a Fairmont Hotel

The Claremont Club & Spa, a Fairmont Hotel, is nestled in the hills of Berkeley, overlooking San Francisco Bay and the city skyline.

First opened in 1915, the luxury resort covers 32 acres and has an enormous range of activities and amenities. The Claremont Club is also a country club so it has an extensive array of pool, spa and tennis facilities.

Here’s a tour of my Junior Suite which was located in the hotel’s iconic tower. This afforded me three walls with windows delivering some amazing views onto San Francisco Bay and of the resort itself. Although the property is in the California Craftsman style, I liked how the rooms and interiors had a very modern, Hollywood Regency-ish vibe.

To get to the Claremont Club in style, I drove the 2018 Lexus GX 460 Luxury SUV up from Los Angeles. With three rows of leather seats, a big V8 engine and every driver aid and assistance technology, it’s great for long road trips. We had five people and it accommodated us all comfortably with room for our luggage. Be warned, although the hotel is rather close to San Francisco (we could see the skyline from our window), the main way to get back and forth is the Bay Bridge, which can be crowded. You can take a Bart train back and forth from San Francisco (or directly from SFO) and then catch an Uber or Lyft (or taxi) to the hotel from the station (under $10 each way).
