Foodwise, the tournament season has been a moveable feast for tennis star Taylor Fritz—unless he’s winning. “If I’m playing well I’ll eat the same thing. It becomes a bit of an OCD routine.” Fritz, who has shown his prowess on grass, clay and hard courts, is marking his Olympic Games debut in Paris before competing in the US Open. “It feels like all eyes are on tennis in the States. I love it.” Here, his tournament travels.

“I’m always excited to play there. It’s the first open of the grass-court season. My clothing sponsor, Hugo Boss, is located nearby, so I get to go to the factory and pick out clothes. It’s always a fun week. I’m pretty into fashion, I’ve done modeling, and it’s something I want to continue.”

“As an American, the US Open is the most important event of the year. It’s amazing to play in front of the home crowd. For a fancy dinner I’ll go to Zuma. I’m pretty stuck in my ways so I’ll have Chipotle or Chopt for lunch. I’ve stayed at the Equinox Hotel. They have an amazing gym. It’s a very fitness-minded hotel so it’s nice to stay there during the tournament.”

“During tournaments I don’t go out much, but I look forward to the Japan Open because I get out and do things. It’s one of my favorite stops outside the States. I love going to Ichiran, a chain of ramen shops. You sit in a little booth and they just pass you the ramen. And Japanese barbeque, even in malls by hotels, is incredible.”

Rome

“Taverna Trilussa is incredibly well known in the tennis world. If you go any night during the Italian Open, you’ll see ten to 20 players eating there. I always make sure to go to when I’m in Rome. The pasta is very good, trust me.”
