Leon Draisaitl is having a good year—and the NHL’s leading goal scorer hopes to make it a great one. “The end goal is the Stanley Cup and go down as a winner.” Dubbed the “German Gretzky,” he’s well on his way to establishing his own legacy, and soon will be the highest-paid athlete in the sport. “It’s the biggest name in hockey to be in conversation with, but I’m trying to make my own name.” Off the ice, the Edmonton Oiler prefers warmer climates. “I can’t stand flight delays—who can?—but I truly enjoy traveling.”

“I’ve been going for a long time. I have a house on the island and enjoy boat days. Deià and Sóller are beautiful towns, and the main city of Palma is also great. My dog, Bowie, used to travel with us, but we stopped taking him—it’s too hot for him.”

“I spend the most time in Edmonton because of my job. But it’s become our home, and we love being there. I also have a place in Toronto. It’s a great city with good restaurants—Akira Back and Sotto Sotto are two places I like. From Toronto, you can practically reach anywhere in Europe nonstop, so I enjoy traveling through it. It’s very efficient.”

Capri, Italy

“It was a great trip, my first time in Italy. We stayed at the Jumeirah Capri Palace. The hotel and service were amazing. All Jumeirah hotels are exceptional. I really want to return and check out other places along the Amalfi Coast. I’m a big sun guy.”

“I spent my recent February break there and visited for the Olympics. My sister’s husband played for the German field hockey team, and I got to see his gold medal game. I love classic Parisian dishes. I know it’s a cliché, but they have the best baguettes and croissants. The bread is just better in Europe—no offense to Canada or America.”
