United Airlines and Emirates have officially launched their codeshare partnership, providing passengers of both airlines with easier connections and more ways to earn and redeem miles.
The two carriers announced they would form a codeshare agreement in September 2022. According to United and Emirates, it is now in effect.
As noted by both carriers, the new partnership will give United passengers seamless access to more than 100 destinations across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa through Emirates’ global network. At the same time, Emirates passengers will access 150 destinations across the Americas through United’s vast network.
Emirates passengers flying from the carrier’s hub at Dubai International Airport (DXB) to its three U.S. gateway cities – Chicago (ORD), Houston (IAD), and San Francisco (SFO) – can now easily connect to destinations across United’s extensive network, including in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
“This codeshare agreement will provide United’s customers with greater access to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia and builds on our commitment to providing the best possible travel experience,” said Andrew Nocella, Executive Vice President, and Chief Commercial Officer at United Airlines.
United launched a new daily service from Newark (EWR) in late March, to kick off its new partnership with Emirates. The flight, which operates on a Boeing 777-200ER, leaves Newark at 10:15 PM each day, with the return flights leaving Dubai at 2:15 AM. In Dubai, United’s passengers can connect to over 100 cities in Emirates’ network, including unique destinations in the Middle East, Africa, India, and beyond.
The codeshare agreement means that customers can book entire journeys with flights operated by either airline under one ticket, while their baggage can also be checked throughout the trip. In addition, United passengers can also now enjoy Emirates’ award-winning inflight service while accruing miles with United, and Emirates Skywards members can earn and redeem miles on any United Airlines flight.
“We are extremely delighted to activate this historic partnership with United and significantly expand our footprint in the U.S. United’s vast network across the Americas will help us to offer more choice to our customer base from across the globe, and meet demand from across segments, including the leisure, VFR, corporate travelers and students who can now connect seamlessly to and from a broader network of more than 150 domestic points,” said Adnan Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer at Emirates.
The Dubai-based carrier currently operates flights to 17 destinations across the Americas: Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW), Houston (IAD), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Newark (EWR), New York (JFK), Orlando (MCO), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA), and Washington (IAD) in the U.S., as well as Toronto (YYZ), Mexico City (MEX), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Sao Paulo (GRU), and Buenos Aires (EZE).
