Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has formed a new partnership with German car manufacturer BMW to enhance its premium airport transfer service at its two major hubs.

Now the official ‘Premium Limousine’ partner of SWISS, BMW will provide the airline with luxury ground transportation vehicles that will be used to transport First Class and HON Circle Members around Zurich (ZRH) and Geneva (GVA) airports. Specifically, SWISS now has a fleet of ten BMW i7 xDrive60 limousines in Zurich and another i7 in Geneva.

These new all-electric vehicles will replace SWISS’s previous fleet of Mercedes S-Class sedans, with the carrier claiming its shift to BMW will help it to achieve its goals of operating net-zero ground operations by 2030.

“The cooperation with BMW represents another important contribution to our path to CO2-free ground operations by 2030,” said Dennis Weber, CFO at SWISS. “At the same time, we can meet the expectations of our First Class guests and HON Circle members at the highest level by using the luxury limousine.”

Sergio Solero, President & CEO of BMW (Switzerland) AG, said: “BMW and SWISS share the same values with their high standards for sustainable and customer-oriented product and service quality and stand for future-oriented mobility and innovations.”

SWISS, part of the Lufthansa Group, has long offered a luxury ground experience to premium passengers and frequent flyers, including SWISS First Class Lounges at Terminal A and Terminal E at Zurich Airport.

However, unlike other airlines’ similar ground transfer services, such as Emirates, Turkish Airlines, and Air France, SWISS’s service only offers passengers transportation within the airport, for example, between terminals when catching a connecting flight. That being said, it’s still a convenient and luxurious service for those eligible.

Available exclusively to First Class passengers and members of HON Circle, an elite status within Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More frequent flyer program, eligible passengers can now use exclusive transfers from the lounge to the gate or tarmac. And they can also now feel better about the lower carbon footprint of the transfers, thanks to the all-electric vehicles, while traveling in luxury and comfort.

SWISS is not the only airline partnering with BMW for ground transportation services. Malaysia Airlines started offering exclusive terminal transfers with BMW vehicles at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) earlier this year, while Emirates also used the BMW 5 series for its renowned Chauffeur Drive service in 2020.
