Lufthansa‘s lounge at London Heathrow (LHR) has reopened this week after a three-month renovation, featuring new furnishings, redesigned workstations, and an added “touch of London.”

Located in Terminal 2, this lounge is the largest and busiest for the airline outside of Germany, accommodating up to 350 guests across 1,600 square meters (17,000 square feet).

Diverse Access and Seating Options

The space is divided into two sections with different entry requirements. The Business Lounge is accessible to business class passengers, while the more exclusive Senator Lounge, described as a “lounge within a lounge,” is reserved for first class travelers.

Previously, both spaces were sterile and utilitarian, with furnishings that seemed lifted from a chain hotel. The redesigned lounge is more stylish and inviting, with warmer lighting, sleeker furnishing, and new flooring.

In the Senator Lounge, a backlit forest scene gives the space a verdant feel, and a seating island gestures toward the Chesterfield sofa, a British design icon, with deep button tufting.

The Business Lounge has stylized photographs of London, including the Underground and the London Eye.

Amenities and Services

The space has been separated into more distinct zones for eating, relaxing, and working. The “reimagined” workstations have curtains for privacy, and the two phone booths in the Business section have been fitted with upgraded wall panels for better acoustics.

The amenities are largely unchanged. Guests can grab hot and cold food from a buffet, including German dishes such as sauerkraut and traditional bread. Other perks include complimentary newspapers, free Wi-Fi, a printer and photocopier, TVs, lockers, and panoramic runway views.

Sven Thaler, Senior Director of Sales Northern Europe at Lufthansa, said: “We are delighted to reopen our refurbished lounge in a prime location just after the security checkpoint.

“As the second largest airline group at Heathrow with more than 360 weekly Lufthansa Group flights, we are committed to investing in our premium customer experience and our long-term presence in Heathrow Terminal 2. We welcome our valued customers to enjoy the enhanced lounge experience.”

London in High Demand

Lufthansa says that 540,000 visitors spend time in its Heathrow lounge each year, so it was ripe for a makeover.

The lounge opens daily from 4:15 AM, ahead of Lufthansa’s 6:30 and 6:35 AM departures to Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC), and stays open until 10:00 PM.

The Senator part of the lounge welcomes passengers traveling on first-class tickets with Lufthansa, SWISS, or another Star Alliance member, Miles & More Senator or HON Circle members, and passengers with Star Alliance Gold status traveling with a Star Alliance airline in any cabin.

Business class passengers with Lufthansa, SWISS, or Star Alliance members are welcome in the Business Lounge. As it’s the only Star Alliance lounge in Terminal 2A, the space attracts many travelers not holding Lufthansa tickets.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa is busy rolling out a new lounge concept to complement its long-awaited Allegris long-haul business class product. The first Allegris lounge and prototype opened in Newark (EWR) in July, featuring natural textures and contemporary furnishings.

The space in Heathrow isn’t technically an Allegris lounge, as Lufthansa doesn’t operate any long-haul flights from London, but it has a similar warm feeling, zoned layout, and subtle attention to design.
