KLM has begun rolling out its new Premium Comfort Class service for passengers on more international flights. The Dutch flag carrier operated its first flight with the new seating options on flight KL645 from Amsterdam Schiphol to New York JFK on August 31.
The Dutch flag carrier has equipped more of its aircraft with Premium Comfort cabins, aiming to have it available on all of its Boeing 777 and 787s by January 2024.
KLM’s Premium Comfort Class is their take on the increasingly popular ‘premium economy’ class of seats that frequent flyers now come to expect on long-haul flights.
KLM is one of the last major operators of long-haul flights to begin offering the fare, with it already being available on airlines like Emirates, Qantas, and Virgin Atlantic.
According to KLM, passengers flying Premium Comfort Class can expect larger, more comfortable seats, higher quality inflight meals, and priority boarding, among other perks.
Premium Comfort cabins are entirely separated from Business Class and regular Economy, providing passengers with an extra level of privacy and quietness.
Meanwhile, the seats have 99 cm of legroom—a 17 cm upgrade compared to Economy Class—and can be reclined by up to 20 cm.
The new seats also come equipped with movable leg and footrests, a 13-inch inflight entertainment screen, and in-seat power sockets, while an increasing number of flights are now offering inflight WiFi.
“Our new class caters to the requirements and wishes of business and leisure travelers alike,” said KLM in a statement on its social media accounts. “Premium Comfort Class is located in a separate area inside the aircraft. The wider seats offer more legroom and recline than in Economy Class. In addition, with an elaborate menu and SkyPriority boarding, our new class offers extra comfort to our passengers.”
KLM Premium Comfort passengers can choose one of three premium meals accompanied by a selection of wines and liquors. They will also be offered a welcome snack and drink before take-off and another snack and drink just before landing.
Finally, passengers flying Premium Comfort Class will gain access to the SkyPriority service, provided by SkyTeam. This service offers passengers priority check-in, priority bag drops and pick-ups, priority security lanes, priority boarding, and priority immigration. It is available in more than 970 airports worldwide and is open to KLM Business Class passengers, KLM Flying Blue members, and SkyTeam Elite Plus members.
