Alaska Airlines is launching a new in-flight menu for its First Class passengers, curated by Michelin-starred chef Brandon Jew, that will be available on flights from San Francisco to New York this month.
Starting Wednesday, August 28, Alaska passengers flying First Class flights between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) will be able to sample the brand-new menu crafted especially for the airline by acclaimed chef Brandon Jew, owner of the Michelin-starred Mister Jiu’s restaurant in San Francisco.
Passengers can preorder selections from the special menu from Wednesday, August 14.
Traditional Chinese-American Menu
Chef Brandon Jew is renowned for using high-quality ingredients sourced from local farms in Sonora County and the Bay Area and traditional Chinese cooking techniques and flavors to create contemporary Chinese-American cuisine.
The airline’s new First Class menu will include a range of the chef’s signature dishes, and the partnership will run for at least a year with seasonal variations.
“We’re grateful to Chef Jew for his partnership in this exciting initiative and ongoing commitment to elevate the travel experience for our guests with sky-high hospitality and world-class cuisine,” said Todd Traynor-Corey, managing director of guest products at Alaska Airlines.
“Our relationship with Chef Jew traces back several years ago, including working together to give back to the residents of San Francisco’s Chinatown. His commitment to quality, gastronomic craftsmanship, and philanthropy align perfectly with our values.”
Available Options
For breakfast, First Class passengers can expect a brown rice congee with soy-cured eggs and a braised pork belly served with a turnip cake, pickled cauliflower, hoisin, and hot chili sauce.
For lunch/dinner, guests on SFO to JFK flights will be served braised duck leg, sesame egg noodles, and gai lan served with wood ear mushrooms, tofu skin, and cucumbers. Meanwhile, those flying from JFK and SFO will enjoy roasted black cod topped with ginger-scallion sauce, silken tofu, and mapo sauce served on a quinoa and farro blend with roasted shitake mushrooms.
“I’m so excited to partner with Alaska Airlines on their First Class flight menu, connecting my hometown of San Francisco with New York, a city where I’ve always dreamed of living in,” said Chef Brandon Jew.
“Luxury begins with quality ingredients, which underscores our shared values. At Mister Jiu’s, we are always evolving and defining Chinese-American cuisine in the Bay Area while advocating for the global recognition of Chinese food – the partnership with Alaska Airlines elevates Chinese cuisine from coast to coast.”
As part of Alaska’s partnership with Chef Brandon Jew, the airline is also donating $5,000 to Gum Moon Women’s Residence, a non-profit organization based in San Francisco’s Chinatown that helps local women and children integrate into American society.
