Air France-KLM has partnered with ride-sharing giant Uber, allowing users of the app to earn points that can be redeemed on flights on the airline group’s network.
On Tuesday, Uber announced it signed a multi-year partnership with the airline group, which owns the flag carriers of France (Air France), the Netherlands (KLM), and Dutch low-cost carrier Transavia.
Under the terms of the new partnership, customers booking taxis within France and the Netherlands will earn one mile with Flying Blue—Air France-KLM’s frequent flyer program—for every €1 spent on the app.
The new loyalty program is open to both French and Dutch residents as well as visitors, and users who take more than four Uber trips in a single month will see their earnings rise to 2 Flying Blue miles per €1 spent for the remainder of that month and the next three months.
Flying Blue miles can be redeemed on various products, from flight reservations and upgrades to hotel rooms and goods in participating stores. To be eligible, users must sign up to Flying Blue and then link their membership to their Uber account in Uber’s settings, after which points will automatically be rewarded for all Uber spending within France or the Netherlands.
“Whether you’re exploring a new town or riding around your hometown, Uber can help you get almost anywhere at any time,” Uber states on its website. “Now, earn up to 2 Flying Blue Miles per euro spent wherever you go. Turn rides into Miles and miles into your next holiday.”
The announcement of this new partnership with Air France-KLM was one of several new features announced by Uber on Tuesday.
Another useful new tool for travelers is the ability to see Uber fares in a certain destination before stepping foot in the city. The feature allows Uber users to search options in over 10,000 cities across the world, allowing them to get an insight into the sort of fares they can expect to pay when booking rides once in the city. The new feature also enables users to reserve Uber rides for their next trip in any given destination.
Uber is also rolling out two new features in time for the Olympic Games in Paris, which are set to start on July 26th. Those who want a break from the sporting action can use ‘Uber Bubbles’ to book an exclusive champagne tour, which will take them on a day trip to the nearby region of Champagne. Now available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, the all-day excursion includes private transport, two champagne tastings, and lunch for €200 ($218) per person.
Within Paris, Uber has also expanded its Uber Boat service, allowing users to book private cruises along the River Seine absolutely free. In partnership with boat rental firm Click&Boat, this offer will enable passengers to book a one-hour Uber Cruise along the river, providing breathtaking views of Paris between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM from July 28 to August 3.
