So new not even the store representatives have seen it, the latest Poliform outdoor collection, just unveiled at the 61st Salone del Mobile in Milan this month, is nothing short of stunning. The alfresco display was framed inside the 15th-century Chiostri di San Simpliciano, lending sound and vision to the classic yet contemporary line.
The new offering presents a collage of sofas, armchairs, tables and accoutrement designed by Emmanuel Gallina, Marcel Wanders, and Soo Chan, among others. Gentle and clean curved lines are front and center in Wanders’ Mad Out collection, which is lightly adapted to suit the outdoors. Comfortable chairs and loungers meant to take on the sun feature sturdy textile cushions that blend in with inviting earth tones of cream, brick, and brown. Tubular backrests are set in hand-braided rope, a Wanders signature, as wrap-around curves allow the air and light to filter through.
“We pay great attention to selecting the very best materials for our products,” says Poliform CEO Giovanni Anzani. “The quality of the raw materials used determines the high aesthetic value that distinguishes the collection.”
Archetypal indoor armchairs call to the sun and sky amid three-seat Ketch sofas by Gallina, all complemented by three-legged, parabola-shaped coffee tables of smooth, white lava stone. The sensuous Soori daybeds, by celebrated Singapore architect Soo Chan, add more shapes and dimensions to the ensemble. Chan brings to Poliform an exclusive round day bed with an elegant, braided headboard and textile cushions that sink to the touch. His seductive Magnolia Collection comes in lounger shapes for the outdoors, promising rest in a bath of rays.
The outdoor collection by Poliform represents a long evolution in the company’s approach to living and lifestyle. An icon in the heady world of indoor contemporary design, Poliform launched in 1970. Conceived by Alberto Spinelli, Aldo Spinelli and Anzani, the brand came into being in the Brianza Furniture District in Brianza, Italy. It quickly became a leader in hand-crafted, high-end cabinetry and indoor furnishing concepts with unparalleled quality and attention to detail, and remains one of the leading players in contemporary furniture with a home base near Lake Como.
“What makes each and every Poliform product an ambassador of Italian style is, above all its boundless creativity, the productive expertise it inherited from the tradition of the world’s finest furniture producing cluster, and then constantly upgrading technological know-how,” says Anzani. “All of these qualities are fundamental for a company that is constantly in contact with the demands of an international clientele.”
Poliform is now an international company with flagship stores and showrooms across Europe, the U.S., Brazil, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Its products are available in 85 countries around the world, with 500 authorized dealers of which 90 are mono-brand stores.
Poliform’s showrooms are museums of design in their own right, laying out in vignettes as one space flows to the next. Find showrooms across the United States and the flagship stores in New York, Miami, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
