Private Jet Company Now Using Special Threat Detection Technology

Set Jet, a Scottsdale Arizona-based private jet charter company that serves top west coast leisure destinations, is taking steps to ensure the safety of its customers with Evolv Express® — a weapons-detection system now up and running its private VIP Terminal and Member Lounge in Scottsdale.

“There is no higher priority for us than the safety and security of our members and we felt it was necessary to address the possibility of someone bringing a weapon or unauthorized device onto the aircraft,” said Set Jet CEO Tom Smith. “This is not something we had to do from a regulatory perspective. Charter Operators and FBOs are not required to do this type of security screening either, but it’s something that we are doing because it’s critical to ensuring our members’ safety.”

Last month, Set Jet, which uses a membership model for its operations, announced it would be the first aviation company in the world to test all its employees for coronavirus and provide free onsite COVID-19 antibody testing for its members prior to each flight. In similar fashion, Set Jet is being proactive by being the first to obtain and deploy the state-of-the-art Evolv weapons-detection technology in their industry.

“The Evolv system is not your typical metal detector that you commonly see in airports and at events, in fact it’s not a metal detector at all, it’s actually an intelligent, touchless security screening system,” said Smith. “By using a combination of AI and sensors, it can scan 3,600 people per hour and allows for multiple people to walk through it, along with their luggage and personal belongings including their keys and wallets simultaneously, without even requiring them to slow down. It’s an incredible system and we are proud to be Evolv’s launch partner for private aviation.”

Set Jet has two large jets: a Bombardier Challenger 850/CRJ 200 and CRJ900 aircraft, specifically customized as an ultra-VIP, 15- to19-seat air cabin. Set Jet uses FAA PART 135 operators to execute all charter flights and does not own or operate any aircraft. Pilots are typically military-trained jet fighter pilots with extensive experience.

The company facilitates private jet charters to six of the most frequently traveled destinations on the West Coast: Scottsdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and San Francisco, and also runs non-stop private jet charter flights between Los Angeles and New York City. Members may also participate in seasonal private jet charter flights between Los Angeles and Cabo San Lucas and Scottsdale and Cabo San Lucas, as well as between Los Angeles and Aspen and Scottsdale and Aspen. Set Jet facilitates this members-only based service from non-congested and conveniently located VIP private terminals, without the traditional inconveniences related to commercial air travel, such as advance notice for booking flights, price premiums for last minute travel, time allowance for driving to primary airports, check-in requirements, security delays and parking expenses. Membership fees start at $100 per month with one-way flights starting at around $400.
