The hotel opened in 2013 and was the first true, five-star luxury hotel in the Southern French city. The InterContinental Marseille is known for its food, having recruited local celebrity chef Lionel Levy as its Executive Chef before opening.
His restaurant, Une Table au Sud, was one of the the best in France and a reason many people visited the city. Chef Levy runs two restaurants at the hotel, Brasserie Les Fenetres and the more formal Alcyone Restaurant.
Alcyone, with a coveted Michelin star, is considered one of the best restaurants in France. They only have 30 tables and there is a single seating and dinner service each night. Chef Levy oversees all the food at the hotel, including the bar menu and room service. I had a few great meals at the brasserie, here’s a look at one of my dinners.
Marseille is a great city to visit in France. It has a world-class new art and culture museum, known as MUCEM (a French acronym for the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations), and some amazing history dating back to the Ancient Greeks. It’s also easy to get to via France’s TGV high-speed train. The trip takes just three hours from Paris and U.S.-based travelers can use Rail Europe to reserve and book their tickets. Rail Europe is the official U.S. sales outlet for French trains and those of most other European countries. Aside from easy point-to-point booking within or between countries on their website, I like how they mail you the physical train tickets in advance. That way you have them in-hand when you travel to France.
