United Airlines is adding to its flight schedule from the US to London, following the UK government’s decision to ease restrictions on fully vaccinated travelers to England from the US and the EU. The new travel rules are set to take effect starting Aug. 2.
The US carrier is planning six daily flights between the US and London starting in August. The increased schedule will add a second daily flight from Washington DC and increasing its Houston flights to daily service.
The airline said it plans to resume more London service in the coming months, in addition to launching new nonstop service between Boston and London.
Fully vaccinated US travelers to London will still have to present a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test and another on Day 2 after arrival in England. Travelers from the US must have received all recommended doses of one of FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines – Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson.
A person is fully vaccinated two weeks or more after receiving a “full course” of the vaccine, meaning both shots of vaccines that require them (see CDC vaccination guidelines here).
With the vaccine, visitors will be able to enter the UK from any country on the British government’s “amber” traffic light list without having to self-isolate at home for 10 days. Arriving passengers will need to show either a US-issued vaccine card or an EU Digital Covid Certificate (see UK government COVID travel guide here).
Unvaccinated travelers from amber list countries, which includes most of Europe and the US, are still required to quarantine on arrival.
Passengers vaccinated in the US will also need to complete a passenger locator form prior to traveling to England and provide proof of US residency.
Patrick Quayle, vice president of international network and alliances, said that the announcement is “another major milestone in recovering from the pandemic with the opening of one of the most important markets from the US.”
