Moroccan flag carrier cancels Qatar flights, leaves hundreds of football fans stranded
Royal Air Maroc nixed the flights the night before Morocco-France matchup
On Sept. 6, Royal Air Maroc, the national airline of Morocco, sent out a Tweet that said, “Royal Air Maroc informs you that nationals of visa-exempt countries with an invitation from a Moroccan company or a confirmed hotel reservation can now have access to our flights to Morocco.”
The US is one of over 60 countries in the “visa-exempt” category of travel to Morocco.
The airline added in a subsequent Tweet, “All foreign visitors must comply with the health measures issued by the Moroccan authorities, in particular the obligation to carry out the required tests for COVID-19.”
According to the US State Department website, Morocco is still on a “Level 3: reconsider travel to because of COVID-19” status. The country has seen 80,000 COVID-19 cases and about 1,500 deaths due to the virus.
The State Department guidance also reminds potential travelers of potential terrorist attacks in the country and warns US citizens to stay in areas where there are other Western travelers.
