Lufthansa Tries Out Economy Class ‘Sleeper’s Row’
Product offers a row three or four seats which can be used as a lie-flat bed, and includes bedding and priority boarding
Lufthansa has unveiled a trial run of a lie-flat economy product on its Frankfurt-Sao Paulo route. ‘Sleeper’s Row’ consists of a row of three to four seats in economy class, which passengers can book to use as a lie-flat bed.
Priority boarding is also part of the package, and travelers will receive a business class kit with pillows, a blanket and topper.
The trial period for the product runs through mid-December on flights LH 506/507 and starts at €220 ($260) for three seats. The number of ‘Sleeper’s Row’ available per flight is limited, and tickets must be purchased at the airport, during check-in or at the boarding gate.
According to the airlines, the seats will “be occupied by the sequence of passengers that show interest to our ground staff.”
Air New Zealand introduced a similar concept earlier this year, unveiling its ‘Economy Skynest.’ The airline proposed six full-length lie-flat sleeping pods for the economy class cabin. While the Skynest is not yet in service, the airline does offer an ‘Economy Skycouch’ product on its 777 and 787-9 aircraft. This consists of a row of economy seats which convert into a couch after take-off.
