Lufthansa Extends Rebooking Fee Waiver, Doubles Status Miles
Miles and More benefits are retroactive to any flights made since Jan. 1, applied automatically
Lufthansa Group Airlines has announced it is extending the waiver of rebooking fees through the end of May. Since the end of August, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings has been allowing fares to be rebooked for free.
Originally, the offer to waive rebooking fees was valid through the end of February. Now the fees are being waived up to May 31. All airline fares can now be rebooked, free-of-charge, as often as desired, through that date.
However, the group cautions, “some additional costs may arise for rebookings if, for example, the original booking class is no longer available when rebooking to a different date or to a different destination.”
The rebooking fee waiver applies worldwide for all new bookings in all fares on short, medium and long-haul routes.
In addition, for its Miles and More loyalty program members, Lufthansa Group has announced “far-reaching, one-time special offers” to make it easier to earn or retain status this year.
Throughout 2021, the program is doubling status miles for Frequent Travelers and Senators regardless of booking class, and all status members earning double HON Circle miles for first and business class flights.
These benefits apply retroactively to any flights made since Jan. 1, 2021, and will be applied to accounts automatically.
The offer is valid on all Lufthansa Group flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and Lufthansa Private Jet, Swiss, Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Edelweiss Air, as well as on flights operated by partner airlines Croatia Airlines, Luxair and LOT Polish Airlines on which status miles and HON Circle miles are awarded.
According to Lufthansa Group, Frequent Travelers and Senators will earn two status miles for every euro spent on their Mile and More credit cards.
Furthermore, the group said “every Frequent Traveler or Senator who has a Miles and More Credit Card will be given a one-time credit of 5,000 status miles,” including new applications during the promotional period. A maximum of 30,000 status miles can be earned through the credit card offers.
“We are currently flying by sight and are aware of the difficult situation the corona pandemic poses for our customers as well,” said Joost Greve, head of loyalty at the Lufthansa Group. “Unfortunately, we cannot predict how travel options will develop this year. That is why we create reliability for our most loyal customers by making it much easier to maintain and achieve the frequent flyer status.”
