LaGuardia Airport, New York’s famously derided airport-in-process, will be opening its new Terminal B Arrivals and Departures hall on June 13. The new terminal will serve American Airlines,United Airlines,  Southwest Airlines and Air Canada.

Terminal B will function as American’s main arrivals and departures facility and will include ticketing, check-in, security and baggage claim. The terminal has direct connections to all concourses.

Scheduled for completion in 2022, the LGA Terminal B redevelopment project is part of a comprehensive $8.2 billion effort to transform the airport into a modern, unified facility, featuring improved ground transportation access, additional taxiways and best-in-class amenities.

“The opening of the new Arrivals and Departures Hall at Terminal B is the biggest milestone to date in the transformation of LaGuardia Airport into a world-class transportation hub that is worthy of New York State,” said Governor Andrew Cuomo in a statement.

“As we continue to upgrade and modernize this airport for the 21st century, this new state-of-the-art hall will offer passengers a unique travel experience with new concessions, traveler amenities and art installations by four of the world’s leading artists, while increasing space for passengers to move more safely and efficiently during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The terminal size will allow more space for check-in, security and baggage claim, along with new innovations in contactless technology and an increased focus on cleanliness and disinfection.

Many flights will continue to operate from the B, C and D gates in the original Central Terminal Building. After checking in at the new Arrivals and Departures Hall, customers will be able to reach all B, C and D gates via a temporary walkway.

In response to improving demand for air travel, American will fly 55 percent of its domestic schedule  in July 2020 compared to the same period last year. This includes 95 percent more flights at LGA compared to May 2020.

United’s renovated gates in the Terminal B eastern concourse opened last June.

LaGuardia can be reached by Uber, yellow taxi or by subway and shuttle bus. Subways and shuttle buses have resumed their pre-pandemic schedule  although both are closed from 1 AM to 5 AM every morning for cleaning. If you need to be at the airport for an early departure, consider private car service or Uber.
