EVA Air Runs Trials of AOKpass
The airline is testing the ICC digital health passport on routes to LA and San Francisco
Taiwanese carrier EVA Air is currently conducting a live test of the AOKpass, a digital health passport, on its flights between Taiwan Taoyuan Airport, San Francisco and Los Angeles, with dedicated fast track channels at both US airports. The trial set to run through Aug. 20.
EVA Air is the first Asian airline to use the AOKpass technology. Other carriers testing the technology include Etihad Airways on flights between Paris and Abu Dhabi, and Air France on routes to Guadeloupe, Martinique, LA and San Francisco.
The app was developed by the International Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with International SOS and the SGS Group. According to International SOS, the AOKpass has already been deployed in over 500 flights.
The technology allows customers to carry a digital, secure and portable copy of medical records including COVID-19 test results. Currently, travelers to and from Taoyuan Airport are required to take a PCR test 72 hours prior to departure. The app will allow EVA Air passengers to store their PCR test results digitally on their mobile devices for later verification at the airport.
“It is vitally important that our passengers’ health is protected, their data is secure and they have a convenient travel experience,” said EVA Air spokesperson David Chen. “AOKpass supports all these three key aims and the pilot will be assisted by our trusted medical partner, MedAire. By running a six-week pilot we will be able to see the consistent benefits to our passengers.”
AOKpass is one of a number of digital health passports that airlines and governments are currently testing in an attempt to establish international standards for verifying passengers’ test results and vaccination status.
