Delta Relaunching Seattle and Detroit Services to Heathrow
The services resume in October, along with an increase in JFK-LHR frequencies to twice daily
Delta continues to expand its services between the US and London, announcing the resumption of flights from Seattle and Detroit to London’s Heathrow in October. In addition Delta’s current daily flights between New York JFK and Heathrow will increase to twice daily starting Oct. 6.
The carrier will resume three times weekly service between Seattle and Heathrow beginning Oct. 7, adding four times weekly flights from Detroit to LHR starting Oct. 11. Delta also offers daily flights from Atlanta, bringing to nearly 30 the number of weekly flights to the UK on its fall schedule.
Heathrow is seeing a substantial increase in transatlantic flights following the UK government’s decision to remove quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated travelers from the US. Last week, both United Airlines and British Airways announced plans to add capacity from North American gateways to the UK.
In anticipation of the increasing frequencies, Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic had already resumed operations from Heathrow’s Terminal 3. The terminal has been closed for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two carriers have been operating from Terminal 2 in the interim.
The carrier said that the US-UK corridor was “critical to international travel and commerce with 22 million people and 900,000 tons of cargo flown between the two countries in 2019.”
“This long-awaited reopening marks a major milestone since the borders closed to most travellers, more than a year ago,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s SVP network planning.
