June 4, 2020
American Airlines has announced plans to increase its domestic schedule in July, and resume from Charlotte, LAX, Philadelphia, and Raleigh-Durham to Heathrow in August.
American says this July its domestic schedule will be over 55 percent of what it flew the same month last year. This compares with just 20 percent in May.
In August, the carrier has confirmed plans to resume flights to a number of European destinations in August. Flights will operate from Charlotte, LAX, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Raleigh-Durham to London Heathrow beginning August 5.
Other transatlantic routes set to resume on the same day include Charlotte to Munich, JFK to Paris and Madrid, Miami to Madrid, Chicago to Athens, Barcelona and Dublin, and Philadelphia to Madrid and Zurich.
AA’s updated schedule also includes resumption of flights from Miami to Rio and Sao Paulo and JFK to Sao Paulo, both starting August 5, JFK to Buenos Aires and Miami to Buenos Aires, both beginning September 9, and Phoenix to London, Dallas to Sao Paulo and Miami to Santiago restarting October 25.
Flights between Dallas and Dublin are set to resume July 7. American is currently operating a daily service between New York JFK and Heathrow, a frequency which will remain until at least August 5.
In addition, the airline is set to reopen Admirals Club lounges in selected airports beginning June 22. The lounges set to reopen are:
• Charlotte (CLT) — Concourse C
• Chicago (ORD) — Concourse H/K
• Dallas (DFW) — Terminal A and Terminal C
• Los Angeles (LAX) — Terminal 4
• New York (JFK) — Terminal B (only prepackaged food and water will be available, due to local restrictions)

The airline advises that lounge openings will be in keeping with current coronavirus safety protocols. “Hours vary by location and capacity and offerings could be limited due to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines or local orders or restrictions,” according to a statement.
A number of other lounges will reopen as service centers only.
Finally the airline has launched a new ‘Summer of Deals’ promotion, awarding double AAdvantage miles for customers who book flights during June for travel before Sept. 30. Prior to booking, travelers need to pre-register at aa.com/summerofdeals.
