American Airlines Announces Reopening for Flagship Lounges

The premium facilities will resume operations at New York JFK and Miami International in September, with others to follow

August 29, 2021

American Airlines has laid out a schedule for reopening its premium Flagship Lounges this fall. On Sept. 14, the carrier says its Flagship lounge at New York JFK’s Terminal 8 will resume operations, with Flagship First Dining resuming on Sept. 16.

The Flagship lounge on Concourse D at Miami International will reopen Sept. 28, and resume First Dining on Sept. 30. These openings will be followed later in the fall by the lounges at Los Angeles International’s Terminal 4, Dallas Fort Worth’s Terminal D, and Chicago O’Hare’s Terminal 3.

The Flagship Lounges are a different premium product from the carrier’s Admirals Club facilities. Customers can access the Flagship Lounge depending on elite status or if they are traveling in a premium cabin on a qualifying flight, which has recently been expanded to more destinations, including flights to Hawaii.

The Flagship offering launched in 2017 at JFK, with the most recent facility opening at Dallas Fort Worth in 2019. The next lounge is also set to open at Philadelphia International airport.

The lounges are also introducing new Flagship First Dining menus in partnership with the James Beard Foundation, with each lounge location featuring menus by “an acclaimed local chef.”

Other new Flagship lounge amenities include hand soap and lotions by DS and Durga in washrooms, and Dyson Supersonic hairdryers in shower suites.

“The Flagship Lounge and Flagship Dining experience brings a whole new level of luxury to our customers’ journey, and we are thrilled to showcase our new offerings,” said Clarissa Sebastian, managing director of premium customer experience and onboard products.

“With revamped menus designed in collaboration with awe-inspiring chefs and even more ways to access the lounge, we can’t wait to open the doors and serve our customers this fall.”
