British Airways has announced a new direct route between London and Cincinnati as part of its ever-growing transatlantic joint venture with American Airlines, Iberia, and Finnair.

The United Kingdom’s flag carrier will operate the route five times per week during the summer starting June 5, 2023, with the frequency reduced to four weekly flights during the winter season.

The new flight to Cincinnati will be the first nonstop flight between the two cities in over a decade. At the same time, it will also be the only route connecting London to the entire U.S. region of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

Currently, British Airways operates more than 300 transatlantic flights from London each week—more than any other U.K. carrier—and Cincinnati will become the airline’s 27th destination in the U.S.

“This is the first time we’ve flown this route,” said Neil Chernoff, Director of Network and Alliances at British Airways. “Not only will this open up these destinations to customers on each side of the Atlantic, but it will also improve connectivity between the Cincinnati region, Europe, and beyond, with opportunities to connect to our wider network via London.”

Currently, the only transatlantic service available to passengers in Cincinnati is operated by Delta Air Lines to Paris (CDG), so the addition of this new link to London-Heathrow will almost duplicate the number of available seats per week on nonstop flights to Europe.

“British Airways nonstop service from CVG to London-Heathrow is an all-round win for the Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana Region,” said Candace McGraw, CEO of Cincinnati International Airport. “The economic impact of this transatlantic flight is exponential for business travel, economic development, and tourism between the U.K. and our area of the United States.”

The airline plans to operate the new 4,000-mile flight with one of its 12 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. Although this is the smallest long-haul aircraft in the airline’s fleet, it still has a capacity of 214 passengers, including 35 business class and 25 premium economy seats.

During the summer of 2023, flight BA121 will depart London Heathrow (LHR) at 4:05 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving at Cincinnati (CVG) at 7:45 PM. The return journey, flight BA120, is scheduled to leave Cincinnati at 9:30 PM, arriving in London at 10:15 AM the next day.

During the winter, however, the flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, departing London Heathrow at 4:00 PM and arriving in Cincinnati at 6:40 PM. The return legs will leave Cincinnati at 8:25 PM, touching down in London at 10:10 AM.
