Delta Air Lines has announced it is suspending flights to 10 domestic airports until at least September. The airports are Chicago Midway, Oakland International, Hollywood Burbank and Long Beach in California, Providence, RI, Westchester County and Stewart International in New York, Akron-Canton in Ohio, Manchester, NH, and Newport News/Williamsburg, VA.
The move comes as the carrier plans an 85 percent reduction in flights in the second quarter, including an 80 percent cut in US domestic capacity and 90 percent internationally. Beyond these cuts, Delta is seeking permission from US regulators to suspend flights to nine other cities that the airline said could be served by other airports, including three in Michigan.
Sandy Gordon, senior vice president for domestic airport operations, said the cuts allow the airline to consolidate operations while customer traffic is low.
