Puerto Rico Rolls Back Welcome to Mainlanders Until August

With a rising coronavirus rate since its official reopening on July 15, the island is once again off limits to US travelers

Puerto Rico’s governor, Wanda Vasquez Garced, has pushed back a formal opening for tourism to August 15 due to an influx of travelers from COVID-heavy areas like Florida, the Puerto Rico tourism website reports.

Within Puerto Rico itself bars, gyms, theaters, casinos and marinas must remain closed until July 31. Restaurants are limited to 50 percent capacity. Alcohol sales will not be allowed after 7 PM, and beach access is limited to exercise. There is a 10 PM to 5 AM curfew in place.

The island has been formally welcoming tourists from the US mainland since July 15 with measures in place such as asking travelers to provide negative molecular COVID-19 test results taken 72 hours before landing and following a mandatory face mask policy in all public places.
