Exciting New Airline Routes Taking Off in 2024

The air travel industry had a record-breaking year in 2023, and passenger numbers are back to pre-pandemic levels. As a result, airlines in the U.S. are planning to expand their networks in 2024. They have already released schedules for the year ahead, and more new routes and destinations are expected to be announced soon.

Here are some exciting new routes we can look forward to this year.

American Airlines

After navigating 2023 successfully, including having the lowest number of flight cancellations over the winter holiday period, the nation’s biggest airline has bold plans for 2024.

So far, American Airlines has announced the launch of four new routes to Europe, as well as an expanded winter service to leisure destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean. Some of its most exciting new routes include:

• Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Barcelona (BCN)
• Chicago (ORD) to Venice (VCE)
• Philadelphia to Naples (NAP)
• Charlotte (CLT) to Tulum (TQO)
• Miami (MIA) to Ocho Rios (OCJ)

United Airlines

United Airlines has announced its largest transatlantic summer schedule for 2024, while it has also jumped on the Tulum bandwagon, announcing new flights to the brand-new Mexican airport from three U.S. airports this March.

The Chicago-based carrier has also applied to connect Houston (IAH) and Tokyo Haneda (HND). Here are some highlights to look forward to:

• New York/Newark (EWR) to Faro (FAO)
• New York/Newark to Reykjavik (KEF)
• San Francisco (SFO) to Beijing (PEK)
• Denver (DEN) to Montego Bay (MBJ)
• Chicago (ORD) to Tulum (TQO)

Delta Air Lines

Fresh after being named the most punctual airline in North America and picking up its third consecutive Cirium Platinum Award for global operational excellence, Delta Air Lines plans to continue its success into 2024.

Like United, Delta has announced its largest-ever transatlantic schedule, while it also has new flights lined up to Taiwan and Tulum, as well as a number of new domestic services to popular leisure destinations. Here’s just some of what’s coming:

• New York (JFK) to Munich (MUN)
• Atlanta (ATL) to Zurich (ZRH)
• Seattle (SEA) to Taipei (TPE)
• Atlanta to Tulum (TQO)
• Atlanta to Santa Barbara (SBA)

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines also has big plans for 2024, not least its aims to push through its takeover of Hawaiian Airlines. The Seattle-based airline also has a few new routes for passengers to look forward to, including exciting new services to Latin America and the Caribbean that have actually already begun!

Some of Alaska’s best new routes include:

• Los Angeles (LAX) to Guatemala City (GUA)
• Seattle (SEA) to Nassau (NAS)
• Las Vegas (LAS) to Cabo San Lucas (CSL)
• New York (JFK) to Palm Springs (PSP)
• Anchorage (ANC) to San Diego (SAN)

JetBlue

After initially believing it was going to lose its slots at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) this summer, it now seems like JetBlue’s popular transatlantic flights will continue for now, while it also has some more services across the pond for passengers to look forward to in 2024.

The airline is also looking to cash in on the Tulum boom with new flights from JFK. Some new JetBlue routes to consider in 2024 include:

• Boston (BOS) to Dublin (DUB)
• New York (JFK) to Edinburgh (EDI)
• New York (JFK) to Tulum (TQO)
• New York (JFK) to Belize City (BZE)
• Los Angeles (LAX) to Nassau (NAS)

Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines didn’t have the best 2023 after suffering the fallout of its disastrous winter holiday period in 2022, which resulted in the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) handing out the largest fine in U.S. aviation history.

However, the low-cost carrier hopes to turn a new page in 2024 and has some exciting new routes on offer, both at home and abroad. These include:

• Orlando (MCO) to Cancun (CUN)
• Orlando to Punta Cana (PUJ)
• Orlando to San José (SJO)
• Burbank (BUR) to New Orleans (MSY)
• Baltimore/Washington (BWI) to Colorado Springs (COS)

International Carriers

Of course, it’s not just U.S. airlines that have big plans for the year ahead, with most major international carriers announcing expanded schedules for 2024, including some brand-new routes to the States.
